Printing Reality

The only way I can describe Mary Katrantzou's prints are through a little dropping of my jay accompanied by slight drooling. Her prints probably have a similar effect on most of us who have been following her collections for a while. They are impeccably intricate yet put together in an easy fashion, to make it look so simple yet at a closer look, simply brilliant. She has proved herself not just a master of prints but structure as well.

Her Ideal Client:
"“She has a liberated spirit and a strong sense of style"

Her Trademark Piece:
“A dress inspired by the filtered beauty in design, mapped around the female figure.”

Bring  student of Architecture and Fashion she combines the two worlds with beautiful ease and fluency.

Torriane Humes describes her sense of artistic illusion:
"All her clothing work as optical illusions. you will see a girl walk down the runway wearing a giant necklace, but on further inspection find that it is actually a design printed on the dress, or you might see some fancy bracelets you're interested in then realize those aren't real either. This is one of the main attributes of Katrantzou's clothing"

The Coveteur's View on Paris-Bombay

The Coveteur has an extensive article on the extravagant annual show.

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>We would give a limb/organ to be able to wear this silver chain creation. It’s remarkable how one house can be on the cusp of a cult classic while still maintaining inherent roots of tradition. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Jewelry, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'></span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Bags, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>Paris-Bombay was Karl’s nod to the amazing Indian embroidery houses. In fact, Karl has never been to India but channelled the motifs through Coco and was able to have a poetic view of the culture. 'It;s much more inspiring not to go to places than to go' – Karl Lagerfeld </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay </span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>This dress has deep cultural meaning behind it. The wheat sheaf is symbolic of prosperity, growth and wealth. Or as we like to call it- the dough, the bread, the moulah…</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay </span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'></span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>“It’s all about refinements. It’s the Paris version of the idea of India” It is really amazing how Karl can take the traditions of a country different than his own, and make them relevant for the future and really fuse Parisian, Indian and CHANEL culture. – Karl Lagerfeld</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris- Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>Without a doubt, absolutely a coveted collection. Fashion hipsters everywhere will soon be donning bindis, chained nose rings and chainmail gloves. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay </span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>Guess who Cocoteur'd this??? Just kidding, but she was there in spriti! </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>We love Karl’s reinterpretation of raw cut stones in addition to alluding to Coco’s rock crystal obsession. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Jewelry, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>The ultimate showstopper. In true Coco form, this get up is luxury meets wearability. A perfect first date outfit! </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay </span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>Karl took us on a dreamy carpet ride. The best of the journey was watching Arizona and Daphne float on their flats- what a nice change. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay </span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>We discovered the throwback to the Coco days in the collection and Coveteur’d accordingly. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay </span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>The lovely Wixson rocked it in this sun brazen frock. We had a viewing of this fabric prior to the show. TC and CC coming soon to a computer screen near you. Stay tuned… </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dress, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>Coco, please let us get married here in a jewel encrusted Sari gown with staircase length train. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dress, CHANEL Paris-Bombay </span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>An homage to Team TC’s favorite picks. Henna tattooed fingerless gloves, clutches and boots were rampant on the runway. So F*&%#ing chic. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris- Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>Mirrors, coins and chains flooded the stage on the bags. We love how Karl updated the “Boy Bag” Rare Rajasthan styles. </span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Bags, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>'Most of the inspiration is from Indian men’s clothes rather than women’s clothes. They’re easier to wear' – Karl Lagerfeld</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All, CHANEL Paris-Bombay</span>

Karl Lagerfeld's Paris-Bombay

"Its much more inspiring not to go to places than to go" Largerfeld

Making this collection an imaginary portrayal of the over-the-top style of Indian Royalty.

And hence proving his words, "Fantasy is better than reality".

"The use of Bombay rather than Mumbai was deliberate: Lagerfeld's India is of an era where the glamour is imperial, rather than Bollywood." The Guardian.

"The designer looked beyond the admittedly glaring differences between the two aesthetics — Parisiennes’ obsession with black compared with Indians’ enthusiastic embrace of the entire color wheel, for one — and tapped into something both cultures share: Elegance." Herald News
